Water Resources Engineer leading various water resource projects in a dynamic design team setting. Overseeing technical tasks like modeling and design while mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities
Use your technical abilities to lead and/or complete the surface water resources components of a wide variety of projects in a dynamic design team setting.
Report directly to the Team Lead and will have both technical and business development responsibilities.
Undertake detailed studies, modelling and design tasks on projects from planning and conceptual design through preliminary / detailed design, implementation, and operational support.
Projects will include master drainage plans, floodplain delineation, highway drainage design, erosion studies, drainage infrastructure design, and stormwater retrofit flood studies.
Hydrologic / hydraulic modeling to support floodplain analysis and design of flood mitigation measures, assessment and design of culverts and storm sewer networks, design of low impact development practices, and preparation of drainage and SWM design briefs and master plans.
Coordinate with senior water resources engineers, hydrologic / hydraulic modellers, and project leaders to ensure that the projects’ needs are met, and priorities are understood.
Develop surface drainage and storm sewer hydrologic / hydraulic models to assess performance, investigate deficiencies and generate/evaluate feasible remedial solutions.
Undertake technical analysis, including developing new methods and techniques, to complete complex or unique water resources studies.
Mentor junior technical staff and review work to ensure high degree of accuracy.
Undertake field investigations in support of drainage infrastructure assessments and designs.
Prepare technical memos and reports, proposals, and other documentation for clients, review agencies, and the public.
Communicate results / interpretations via technical reporting and presentations.
Requirements
Sound understanding of water and environmental related principles and engineering concepts, including demonstrated experience in hydrology and hydraulics.
Experience on stormwater management planning and design projects in support of site development, structures (bridges/culverts), SWMF designs, and transportation projects.
Experience with floodplain analysis and erosion protection measures.
Familiarity with natural channel design and fluvial geomorphology.
Working knowledge of Ontario’s stormwater guidelines and regulations and familiarity with linear infrastructure design.
Proficient use of Rational Method and Manning's Equation and H/H software such as OTTHYMO, PCSWMM, HEC-2, HEC-RAS (1D/2D), Culvert Master and HY8 software. Experience with Infoworks and DHI Mike software packages would be considered an asset.
