About the role
- Staff Software Engineer designing highly available distributed systems for Stripe’s financial infrastructure platform. Building disaster recovery, failover automation, and resilient architecture for latency-critical services.
Responsibilities
- Work with leaders and engineers across the company to identify opportunities to improve Stripe’s reliability posture
- Scope, design, implement, and deploy robust distributed services
- Balance reliability, throughput, latency, resiliency, engineering velocity, and cost
- Design and implement products and prototypes to improve service resiliency, engineering velocity, and management at scale
- Mentor and grow the next generation of technical leaders at Stripe
- Contribute to engineering strategy, tooling, processes, and culture
- Uphold engineering standards and improve the codebase and processes
- Develop global high-availability architecture for latency-critical, stateful applications
- Investigate Mongo write concerns and minimize cross-region TLS handshakes
- Develop systems to automate disaster detection and failovers
Requirements
- 10 years or more of distributed and cloud native software development experience at a highly-scaled or hyperscaler service
- Deep understanding of how to build scalable, resilient, distributed systems, cloud native architectures, and mission critical systems
- Experience influencing, planning, scoping, and leading large projects across many teams
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment involving diverse stakeholders and subject matter experts
- High level of autonomy and responsibility; entrepreneurial, proactive, and self-driven
- Strong history of being a technical lead and mentor across several engineering teams
