About the role
- Software Engineer building and modernizing .NET applications at Sun Life, a financial services and insurance company. Driving secure, high-quality solutions across Agile development, testing, and production support.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end solutions by collaborating with designers, business analysts, and testing specialists
- Design and deliver high-quality applications solving client problems
- Participate in requirements definition, design reviews, and SDLC planning
- Drive technical decisions that shape project direction and timelines
- Evaluate and upgrade legacy applications using current technologies and frameworks
- Coordinate with onshore and offshore teams across development, testing, and implementation
- Embed information security standards into solutions
- Maintain application performance and stability in production
- Analyze and resolve incidents and optimize performance
- Escalate issues strategically when needed
- Participate in rotating on-call production support
- Support project implementations and system upgrades during periodic weekends and after hours
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of professional IT experience
- Proficiency with Agile practices and full application development lifecycle expertise
- Advanced proficiency with C#, .NET, ASP.NET, REST API, SOAP-based web services, Crystal Report, and PowerShell
- Strong SQL and SQL Server knowledge with solid relational database experience
- Expertise with CI/DevOps tools including TFS, Git, Artifactory, and NuGet
- Unit test automation experience
- Experience with Razor and Blazor for user interface development
- Experience with modern development tools including GenAI and Copilot
- Reliability Status Clearance required
- Government of Canada law enforcement inquiry and credit check required
- Must account for activities during any period of living or travelling outside Canada for 6 consecutive months during the last 5 years
- Ability to participate in rotating on-call support for production environments
- Ability to work periodically on weekends and after hours for project implementations and system upgrades
- Flexibility for occasional after-hours work and periodic travel between Sun Life locations
- Financial services or insurance industry background is a bonus qualification
- Experience with Java is a bonus qualification
