About the role
- Software Engineer building and modernizing .NET applications for Sun Life’s financial security and insurance business. Owning secure, full-cycle solutions across Agile development, testing, and production support.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end application solutions that address client problems
- Collaborate with designers, business analysts, and testing specialists
- Participate in requirements definition, design reviews, and SDLC planning
- Make technical decisions that shape project direction and timelines
- Evaluate and modernize legacy applications using current technologies and frameworks
- Coordinate with onshore and offshore teams across development, testing, and implementation
- Embed information security standards into solutions
- Maintain application performance and production stability
- Analyze and resolve incidents and optimize performance
- Escalate issues strategically when needed
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of professional IT experience
- Proficiency with Agile practices and the full application development lifecycle
- Advanced proficiency with C#, .NET, ASP.NET, REST API, SOAP-based web services, Crystal Report, and PowerShell
- Strong SQL and SQL Server knowledge
- Solid relational database experience
- Expertise with CI/DevOps tools including TFS, Git, Artifactory, and NuGet
- Unit test automation experience
- Experience with Razor and Blazor for user interface development
- Experience with modern development tools including GenAI and Copilot
- Reliability Status Clearance required
- Must account for living or travelling outside Canada for six consecutive months during the last five years as requested by the Government of Canada
- Willingness to participate in rotating production on-call support
- Willingness to work periodic weekends and after-hours for implementations and upgrades
- Flexibility for occasional after-hours work and periodic travel between Sun Life locations
