About the role

  • Java Software Engineer building secure Retail Branch Service applications for TD, a leading global bank. Developing, testing, and supporting scalable solutions in an onsite team.

Responsibilities

  • Support Retail Branch Service applications within the Servicing Platform team
  • Write high-quality, defect-free Java code
  • Participate in peer code reviews and provide support during testing cycles and post-production deployments
  • Contribute to design and refinement discussions for scalable solutions
  • Ensure applications follow secure coding standards and avoid common vulnerabilities
  • Build, test, and validate applications for reliability and performance
  • Participate in daily meetings with business and technical partners to clarify requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Provide technical support during production deployments and defect triage
  • Translate business requirements and research findings into effective delivery solutions
  • Identify issues, improve processes, and communicate risks or impacts to stakeholders
  • Contribute to project planning, effort estimation, and status reporting
  • Develop new features and perform unit and component testing
  • Work with technology partners on configuration and custom components
  • Analyze technical requirements and recommend engineering solutions
  • Document and verify system components, infrastructure, security, integrations, operability, and architecture designs
  • Participate in quality management reviews of designs, prototypes, and requirements
  • Provide technical expertise during incident management, impact assessment, and incident resolution
  • Develop and maintain processes for issue prevention and timely incident resolution
  • Identify and document technical decisions, risks, and lessons learned
  • Deliver solutions meeting project milestones, budgets, development standards, and quality standards
  • Protect organizational interests by identifying, managing, and escalating risks
  • Support knowledge transfer, cross-training, and knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate with development teams to define and validate user stories, acceptance criteria, and definitions of done/ready
  • Keep current on emerging trends, tools, and techniques
  • Keep stakeholders informed about project and day-to-day activity status
  • Provide training, coaching, and guidance as appropriate
  • Act as a brand ambassador for the business area and TD

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience developing Java applications
  • Experience building and maintaining user interfaces (UI)
  • Experience using Copilot or similar AI-assisted development tools
  • Experience with the Spring Framework (e.g., Spring Boot)
  • Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Experience with Git and CI/CD in an Agile environment (e.g., Maven, Jenkins)
  • Proficiency with common engineering tools, IDEs/editors, build systems, and code repositories such as Bitbucket
  • Familiarity with application security concepts and secure coding practices
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure)
  • Experience supporting distributed, thick-client applications
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills; able to work independently
  • Ability to produce clear, thorough, and reusable technical documentation
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Undergraduate degree, postgraduate degree, or technical diploma/certificate
  • Strong academic background in a relevant discipline, such as computer science or engineering
  • Comfortable working in various Agile methodologies
  • C# and C++
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Salt
  • Database familiarity, SQL and NoSQL
  • Knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS protocol and TCP/IP networking
  • Knowledge of OAuth2 security
  • Experience working with Accessibility requirements
