About the role
- Senior software engineer building Topstep’s trader-facing platforms, payments, onboarding, and internal tools. Developing reliable TypeScript, Node.js, React, and AWS systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate full stack features from technical design through deployment and production support
- Partner with Product and Design during discovery to shape scope, identify technical trade-offs, and provide estimates
- Write technical designs and guide architecture decisions
- Build automated testing, observability, and operational ownership into delivery
- Raise engineering standards through code review, mentoring, and shared patterns
- Identify and resolve issues across the stack to maintain stable, performant systems
- Participate in the on-call rotation and incident follow-through
- Use AI-assisted development tools effectively and responsibly
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and operating production-grade systems with user-facing APIs
- Strong full stack foundation in TypeScript, Node.js, REST, GraphQL, React, and Next.js
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems, including event-driven architectures, message queues, eventual consistency, concurrency, and race-condition handling
- Strong focus on performance, security, and maintainability
- Database experience with PostgreSQL or SQL Server, including schema design, migrations, indexing, and query optimization
- Experience with metrics, logging, tracing, on-call participation, and end-to-end delivery ownership
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts
- Ability to work with Product, Design, and QA
