About the role

  • Staff Android engineer advancing Unity’s game engine across mobile, laptop, and hybrid devices. Leading runtime optimization, architecture, and cross-team platform initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-team technical initiatives and drive consensus on architectural designs and implementation strategies
  • Profile, analyze, and identify optimization opportunities across the technology stack
  • Partner with stakeholder teams to develop and deploy performance improvements
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers across the organization
  • Promote rigorous software engineering standards and code quality
  • Contribute to strategic definition and roadmap planning of platform engineering initiatives
  • Author comprehensive technical documentation
  • Participate actively in design review processes
  • Investigate and resolve complex system-level issues spanning multiple software subsystems
  • Collaborate with platform, core engine development, editor workflows, and graphics system engineering groups
  • Deliver Unity platform support for an Android-based ecosystem across mobile, laptop, and hybrid form factors

Requirements

  • Extensive background in Android systems programming
  • Advanced proficiency in C++, C#, and Java/Kotlin
  • Demonstrated success in architecting, building, and deploying large-scale platform or runtime systems
  • Comprehensive understanding of computer architecture, memory hierarchies, cache mechanics, and CPU/GPU interaction models
  • Proficiency in asynchronous execution and multithreaded software architecture
  • Proven capacity to analyze, comprehend, and navigate large and complex software codebases
  • Documented history of leading cross-functional technical initiatives and shaping engineering direction
  • Advanced diagnostic, debugging, and performance profiling competencies
  • English proficiency sufficient for frequent professional verbal and written communication
  • Preferred: experience in game engine architecture and development
  • Preferred: in-depth understanding of C# and managed runtime environments
  • Preferred: active contributions to open-source software initiatives or published technical literature
  • Preferred: familiarity with real-time 3D rendering methodologies and modern graphics APIs, including Vulkan
  • Preferred: sound engineering judgment regarding the use of AI tools in software development workflows
