About the job Quality Inspector III Location: Sarnia, ON Type: 2-year contract Rate: $85/h About the Role We are seeking an experienced Quality Inspector III to support a major refinery emissions reduction project in Sarnia, Ontario. This long-term project involves the installation of new mechanical equipment, piping systems, electrical and instrumentation components, and associated infrastructure as part of a large-scale environmental improvement program. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing quality activities related to construction and fabrication, ensuring work is executed in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes and standards, quality requirements, and industry best practices. This position will work closely with project management, construction, commissioning, contractors, suppliers, and quality teams throughout all phases of project execution. Key Responsibilities Perform construction and fabrication inspections across mechanical, piping, structural, and equipment-related scopes of work. Monitor contractor and supplier quality performance to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, standards, and approved procedures. Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality plans, inspection reports, turnover documentation, and related quality records. Conduct quality surveillance activities at construction sites, fabrication facilities, and vendor locations. Identify, document, and communicate quality concerns, deficiencies, non-conformances, and corrective actions. Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), equipment inspections, hydrotesting, and vendor quality surveillance activities. Coordinate with project engineers, construction personnel, commissioning teams, contractors, suppliers, and third-party inspectors. Provide quality-related guidance and support throughout construction, fabrication, turnover, and commissioning activities. Participate in field walkdowns, punch list reviews, and turnover processes. Support the resolution of quality-related issues and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented and documented. Travel periodically to fabrication shops and vendor facilities within Canada and occasionally the United States as required. Qualifications Minimum 10 years of experience in quality inspection, quality assurance, quality control, or a related discipline. Strong hands-on experience inspecting mechanical equipment, piping systems, pressure vessels, welding, fabrication, and construction activities. Experience within the oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, chemical processing, or heavy industrial sectors. Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including ASME, API, CSA, and related quality requirements. Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, quality plans, inspection procedures, and construction documentation. Demonstrated ability to coordinate with contractors, suppliers, fabrication facilities, project teams, and stakeholders. Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and reporting skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment while managing multiple priorities. Preferred Qualifications CWB Level II Welding Inspector certification. API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector certification. API 570 Piping Inspector certification. Experience with vendor surveillance, fabrication shop inspections, and equipment manufacturing oversight. Familiarity with Aconex document management systems. Experience using Hexagon completions or systems turnover software. Previous experience supporting large capital projects, refinery upgrades, emissions reduction initiatives, maintenance turnarounds, or owner-operated industrial facilities.
