About the role
- Medical Science Liaison advancing AbbVie’s neuroscience medicines across Western Canada. Building expert relationships, delivering scientific education, and supporting clinical and medical projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain scientific knowledge for credible dissemination of information to external experts and healthcare professionals
- Develop and nurture relationships with established and emerging external experts
- Respond to requests by providing scientific/medical information to external experts and internal stakeholders
- Participate in and follow up on investigator-initiated studies, clinical studies, and medical projects within the therapeutic area
- Provide scientific support and maintain relationships with external experts and academic centres
- Deliver credible scientific presentations to healthcare professionals individually or in groups
- Participate in selecting qualified healthcare professionals for collaborative research and lecture/meeting support
- Ensure scientific and educational integrity in collaborative efforts
- Attend relevant scientific meetings and conferences and prepare summaries of key data
- Cover Western Canada, with the role located in Vancouver or Calgary
Requirements
- Advanced education degree required: Doctorate, PharmD or MD
- Relevant business experience with solid knowledge of the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
- Previous experience as an MSL preferred
- Relevant Psychiatry background considered an asset
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role in the healthcare industry
- Experience presenting and/or interpreting scientific or clinical research publications
- Knowledge of scientific methods applied to clinical research and current legislative/regulatory controls
- Keen interest in developing and maintaining expert knowledge for the assigned therapeutic area/product and medical research
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
- Ease with technology and various tools/systems for day-to-day tasks
- Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time
- Valid driver’s license and passport
- Ability to understand stakeholder unmet needs, make impactful decisions, and integrate information into field team engagement approaches
- Ability to coordinate scientific/medical engagement efforts across stakeholders within a single account
- In-depth understanding and execution of meaningful strategies and data-based business decisions
- Ability to communicate, collaborate, and incorporate views of other in-field team members
