Electrical Engineering Technician supporting routine engineering duties and testing of power conversion equipment at DRS Pivotal Power. Collaborating with manufacturing and supply chain to meet design-to-cost targets.
Responsibilities
Support engineering with routine engineering duties and/or hands-on tasks
Work independently and collaboratively on daily tasks
Novice technical expertise and familiarity with the shop/laboratory and equipment
Assist in the design, build and/or procurement of new or improved electronic circuits, tools, fixtures and materials
Under direction, responsible for completing process documentation, bill of materials, wire lists and item creation
Review project instructions and drawings to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem and possible solutions, and to support the design for manufacture
Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified electrical and/or mechanical components or assemblies for products
Under direction, set up and conduct tests of units and components
Analyze test results related to the design and test objectives and adjust equipment to bring within specifications
Record these test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods
Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in existing products
Generate engineering documentation in support of design activities and customer requirements, including specifications, test procedures and reports, failure reports, design analysis, program progress reports, and configuration management inputs
Work collaboratively with Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Program Management to achieve material and labour design-to-cost targets
Requirements
Possession of a bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in electrical engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution
Minimum of one (1) years of experience in electrical design in a light manufacturing environment
EET or P. Eng. designation, and eligible for registration with Engineers NS
Familiarity with the application of military and commercial standards to electrical designs is required
Experience reading schematics and engineering specs, with a strong ability to troubleshoot
Demonstrated understanding and strong interests in power electronics and power converters design
Demonstrated application of electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, testing procedures and related knowledge to construct and debug power electronics circuitry in relation to the design of power conversion equipment
Knowledge of CAN, SPI, USB, I2C, RS485, RS232 communication protocols to new product designs considered an asset
