About the role

Staff Frontend Engineer setting technical direction for Affirm’s checkout orchestration. Leading React/Vue architecture, operational excellence, and high-quality customer payment experiences.

Responsibilities

Set the team’s technical strategy on a year-long timescale and connect it to critical, business-impacting projects
Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle
Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes
Own team operations and availability, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call support
Establish code review and design standards and advocate for quality through writing and tech talks
Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example
Lead the design of the next generation of Affirm’s checkout experience
Improve checkout speed, clarity, and reliability

8+ years of experience developing and architecting web applications using declarative UI frameworks like React or Vue
Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript
Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating existing functionality through technical and execution plans
Ability to write high-quality, understandable code
Ability to work from low-level language idioms through large-system architecture
Demonstrated growth and impact through gathering and iterating on peer feedback
Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team
Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan
