About the role
- Senior Software Engineer building Homebase’s scheduling, HR, and payroll products for small businesses. Shipping reliable features and leading end-to-end engineering projects.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, launch, and support features across Scheduling, HR Management, and Payroll
- Deliver reliable, testable, and maintainable code where accuracy matters
- Solve problems across Scheduling, Time Tracking, HRM, and Payroll
- Stay close to small business owners and workers and prioritize customer pain points
- Use AI and agentic tools across design, coding, testing, and reviews
- Provide code reviews and advance engineering standards
- Mentor engineers around you and bring junior engineers along
- Partner with Product Managers, Designers, and Data
- Lead implementation of components and services
- Own estimates, execution, delivery, and iterative improvement
Requirements
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and a record of shipping production software that customers depend on
- Strong background in Ruby on Rails is ideal
- Clean design, solid tests, and thoughtful trade-offs
- Comfort working in a high-velocity environment where shipping fast and iterating matters
- Clear communication and ability to work with Product, Design, and Data
- Active AI fluency; use AI tools daily and demonstrate impact
- Experience with payroll, scheduling, workforce management, or similarly complex business domains is a plus
- Ability to lead implementation of components or services and deliver projects end to end
- Ability to own estimation, execution, and iterative improvement
- Ability to mentor junior engineers
- Must work in-office Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Toronto; Homebase does not currently offer relocation assistance
