About the role
- Staff engineer shaping agentic software development workflows and shared Go tooling. Building AI-native platforms for CircleCI, the global continuous integration and delivery platform.
Responsibilities
- Build AI-natively, using AI as the default starting point for engineering problems
- Define the end-to-end agentic software development lifecycle
- Evaluate shared tooling and patterns and help determine engineering standards
- Work with engineering teams to understand workflows and blockers
- Build and support shared platforms and developer tooling used by other teams
- Drive adoption of shared tools and platforms
- Instrument agent usage and outcomes to measure throughput, quality, cost, model choice, and reliability
- Evaluate models, vendors, and open-source tools and make build-vs-buy decisions
- Write design documents and lead technical discussions across teams
- Mentor engineers adopting agentic workflows
Requirements
- Direct experience driving agentic developer experience efforts that changed how an engineering organization builds software with AI agents
- Daily hands-on experience with coding agents, agent harnesses, MCP, and skills or prompt design
- Ability to evaluate agent output and reason about model and token economics
- Experience building and supporting internal platforms or developer tooling and driving adoption
- Production backend service experience in Go, including API design, data modeling, and service integration
- 8+ years of production engineering experience
- Experience making technical decisions spanning multiple teams and accountability for implementation
- User-centered decision-making, clear tradeoff documentation, and stakeholder alignment
- Candidates based in Europe or in the Eastern time zone
