About the role
- Senior Geotechnical Engineer leading multidisciplinary teams in tailings storage facility design at AtkinsRéalis. Overseeing technical reviews, inspections, and mentoring of junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee multidisciplinary project teams in the design of tailings storage facilities, including advanced analyses (dynamic, FLAC, liquefaction)
- Collaborate in the development and optimization of tailings containment designs
- Prepare and review technical studies, geotechnical investigations, design drawings, and specifications related to tailings site selection and development
- Conduct and contribute to technical reviews, including peer reviews, dam safety reviews, and inspections of tailings and mine waste facilities
- Participate actively in project meetings, providing geotechnical expertise and guidance
- Mentor and support the development of junior and intermediate engineers
- Contribute to the preparation of technical proposals and business development initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or Geological Engineering; postgraduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent experience) is strongly preferred
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario and/or other Canadian provinces
- 15+ years of relevant experience leading multidisciplinary teams of large- and small-scale projects within Mining and Metals
- Strong technical expertise in tailings dam design and analysis
- Stress-strain modeling (e.g., FLAC or equivalent)
- Dynamic and seismic analysis
- Liquefaction assessment
- Slope stability and seepage analysis
- Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, including geotechnical, hydrology, hydrogeology, and environmental specialists.
