About the role

  • Energy project assessment lead reviewing renewable and transmission projects for British Columbia’s energy regulator. Coordinating regulatory assessments, Indigenous engagement, and senior-leadership decision support.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate end-to-end project review processes for renewable energy and/or transmission line proposals, including application intake, review, and recommendations
  • Track and report renewable project progress, risks, and timelines, escalating emerging or complex issues to senior leadership
  • Ensure proponents and participants have relevant background information, data, reports, guidelines, standards, and policies
  • Manage tracking documents, official correspondence, consultation records, and assessment reports
  • Analyze, review, and draft key documents, including technical materials and guidance
  • Work with proponents and government agencies to identify technical and policy issues and manage their resolution
  • Collaborate with Indigenous Nations to support relationship building and early, meaningful engagement
  • Review industry pre-engagement with First Nations and engagement with the public, stakeholders, and government agencies; recommend improvements or mitigations
  • Assist with consultation on complex and highly sensitive cases and advise on related implications
  • Prepare and present assessments, options, and impact analyses to senior leadership
  • Support internal project teams with communication, responsibility alignment, and progress tracking
  • Provide executives and directors with briefings, decision-support materials, and application-review coordination

Requirements

  • Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a relevant field such as Natural Resource Management or Environmental Science, and five (5) years’ experience in a related natural resource management discipline; or
  • Technical diploma in a relevant field and seven (7) years’ experience in a related natural resource management discipline; or
  • A relevant combination of education, experience, and training meeting the above standards
  • Experience coordinating or managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects or initiatives
  • Experience identifying and evaluating information supporting decision-making on large projects, programs, or high-profile initiatives
  • Experience leading consultation or negotiations with First Nations communities and groups on complex issues in a natural resource or regulatory context
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with First Nations communities, governments, and organizations
  • Experience analyzing or interpreting regulatory frameworks, policies, or technical information related to energy, environment, or land/resource use
  • Experience presenting assessment results, options, and impact analysis to senior leadership or executive teams
  • Experience coordinating multiparty engagement, facilitation, and conflict resolution
  • Ability to navigate complex and sensitive issues with disparate opinions
  • Energy sector experience may be preferred
