Biology intern supporting Arcadis ecological assessments, permitting, and field surveys. Collecting environmental data and contributing to technical reporting across Ontario.
Responsibilities
Assist with terrestrial and aquatic field surveys, including flora and fauna inventories and habitat assessments
Support data collection using GPS equipment, mobile field applications, and environmental monitoring tools
Conduct desktop research, literature reviews, and background studies for environmental assessments and permitting requirements
Assist with technical reports, field summaries, maps, and environmental documentation
Support environmental permitting activities and regulatory applications under senior staff guidance
Collaborate with biologists, ecologists, environmental scientists, planners, engineers, and project managers on multidisciplinary projects
Participate in field programs involving travel, occasional overnight stays, and outdoor work in varied weather and terrain
Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, or a related field
Strong interest in terrestrial and aquatic ecology and environmental consulting
Excellent organizational, communication, and technical writing skills
Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
Willingness to conduct fieldwork, including hiking and working outdoors for extended periods in varied terrain and weather conditions
Ability to consistently follow Arcadis health and safety procedures during field and office activities
Valid driver's license
Ability to travel to project sites as needed
Previous coursework, research, volunteer experience, or co-op/internship experience related to ecology, biology, or environmental sciences (preferred)
Familiarity with species identification, habitat assessments, or field survey techniques (preferred)
Experience using GPS devices, GIS software, or environmental data collection tools (preferred)
Interest in pursuing a Registered Biologist (RPBio) designation in the future (preferred)
