About the role
- Customs Specialist managing shipments imported into Canada with adherence to CBSA regulations and customs procedures. Setting up and releasing shipments while ensuring compliance and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Set up and release of assigned account shipments
- Manage more complex shipments, with some assistance
- Track and trace incoming shipments and communicate with clients
- Provide final accounting to CBSA for a set list of assigned accounts
- Arrange payments of invoices to steamship lines, warehouses, government agencies
- Arrange transportation of cargo and maintain trucker relationships
- Identify tasks that require special handling and recommend process improvements
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and Policies provided by the organization
- Support organizational commitment to ISO 9001, ISO 45001 certification
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent qualification
- Working towards Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) Designation
- 3-5 years of freight forwarding and/or customs brokerage experience
- Good command, both verbal and written, English skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, building professional relationships internally and externally
- Ability to create collaborative engagements and active listening
- Service oriented and able to resolve customer grievances
- Strong problem-solving skills and analytical skills
- Ability to multi-task, plan, prioritize and manage time effectively to meet goals and achieve results
- Both a team builder and a team-player
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse multicultural environment
