About the role

Responsibilities
- Act as a supporting researcher for senior advisors and managers on topics such as exports, investment, value added, economic impacts and regional diversification
- Conduct in-depth literature reviews and apply relevant theory
- Extract, structure, clean, transform and analyze large datasets
- Develop and apply econometric models related to trade and investment
- Conduct interviews with EDC experts and external experts
- Interpret findings and prepare reports and presentations for internal and external audiences
- Gradually lead independent research projects from design through implementation
- Support the Chief Economist or Deputy Chief Economists with data extraction and analysis, chart creation and PowerPoint presentations
- Contribute to integrating macroeconomic and trade datasets into an enterprise data platform
- Structure tables, implement automated data-quality controls and make data accessible through interactive dashboards
- Collaborate with senior researchers and external experts to contribute to Canada’s global trade strategy
Requirements
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics, public policy, mathematics or a related field
- At least two years of experience in economic research, econometric analysis or economic impact analysis
- Working knowledge of international trade and investment
- Experience processing large datasets
- Experience designing ETL (extract, transform and load) pipelines
- Experience implementing automated data-quality checks
- Experience working with large corporate datasets
- Experience working with international trade and investment data
- Experience using generative AI and large language models (LLMs) to code, analyze data, and produce charts and presentations
- Excellent communication skills, particularly the ability to explain complex or technical concepts to non-specialist audiences
- Strong interest in learning about trade data concepts, developing technical skills and finding innovative ways to leverage LLMs
- Demonstrated experience contributing to a quantitative research project from design through completion
- Fluency in both official languages (English and French) is a strong asset
- Ability to work legally in Canada at the time of application; preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
