About the role
- Research Associate supporting EDC’s economic research on international trade and investment. Analyzing datasets, developing econometric models, and building dashboards for Canadian exporters.
Responsibilities
- Support senior, Principal and Manager researchers across topics including exports, investments, value-add, economic impact and regional diversification
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and apply theoretical understanding
- Extract, structure, clean, transform and statistically analyze large datasets
- Develop and apply econometric models for trade- and investment-related questions
- Interview experts within and outside EDC for qualitative analysis
- Interpret results and prepare reports and presentations for internal and external audiences
- Take on research projects independently from conception to completion over time
- Support the Chief Economist and Deputy Chief Economists with data extraction, analysis, charts and PowerPoint presentations
- Assist data transformation projects by embedding macroeconomic and trade datasets into an enterprise data platform
- Structure tables, build automated data checks and enable wider user access through interactive dashboards
- Collaborate with senior researchers and external subject matter experts to inform EDC strategy and public policy dialogue
Requirements
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in economics, public policy, mathematics or related field
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in economic research, econometric analysis or economic impact
- Working knowledge of international trade and investment
- Experience handling large datasets
- Experience building extract, transform, load (ETL) pipelines
- Experience running automated data checks
- Experience working with large firm-level datasets
- Experience working with international trade and investment data
- Experience working with generative AI/Large Language Models (LLMs) to code, analyze data, generate charts/presentations
- Exceptional communication skills, especially in translating dense or technical concepts for lay audiences
- Proven experience helping take a quantitative research project from conception to completion
- Candidates must be able to work legally in Canada at the time of application; preference given to Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents
- Candidates must meet requisite government security screening requirements
- Bilingual French and English is an asset
