About the role

  • Debt capital advisory analyst/associate supporting financing, M&A and valuation engagements at EY’s Canadian investment banking practice. Building models, conducting due diligence and preparing client materials.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily activities of debt capital advisory, capital placement advisory, and financing/capital raises relating to acquisitions, divestitures and mergers
  • Develop financial models within broadly defined guidelines
  • Synthesize comparable company and precedent transaction research for modeling, competitive analysis, industry analysis and negotiation support
  • Prepare first drafts of pitches, marketing materials, management presentations and client presentations
  • Participate in management meetings and manage due diligence processes for debt advisory engagements
  • Work closely with VP Finance, CFO, Treasurer, Corporate Controller and target personnel
  • Work as a multi-project team player on small teams of 2–3 people, often with minimal supervision
  • Prepare valuation reports for tax and financial reporting purposes
  • Perform financial due diligence, analysis and report writing
  • Perform engagement administration, including independence compliance documentation, engagement agreements, time budgets and billings
  • Collaborate with EY-Parthenon Transaction Support, Valuations and Restructuring teams, and with Audit and Tax service lines
  • Associate: support VPs and SVPs in identifying and exploring potential new business
  • Associate: cultivate and manage client relationships and participate in internal and external business development
  • Associate: provide leadership, coaching and mentorship to junior team members

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree
  • CPA preferred
  • Interest in pursuing the CFA designation
  • Analyst: minimum 2–3 years of relevant work experience
  • Associate: minimum 4–5 years of relevant work experience
  • Working knowledge of Corporate & Investment banking, M&A, capital raise, structured financing, corporate development and financial analysis
  • Working knowledge of Canadian and International Finance and Accounting concepts
  • Understanding of key business drivers related to debt capital advisory transactions
  • Strong Word, Excel, PowerPoint and financial modeling skills
  • Ability and experience working in a team environment
  • Passion for working with large corporate and publicly traded companies, public sector/crown corporations, entrepreneurs, private business owners and management teams
