About the role

  • Tech Lead tackling complex customer deployments for Magical’s agentic AI platform. Designing workflows, debugging integrations, improving agent performance, and shaping reusable platform capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Magical’s most complex, high-risk, or technically ambiguous customer deployments
  • Design agentic workflows, write and improve prompts, build integrations, debug failures, analyze system behavior, and ship production solutions
  • Diagnose issues across customer environments, integrations, agent performance, data quality, and platform behavior
  • Provide technical leadership across multiple customers and teams
  • Review solution designs, implementation plans, testing strategies, and production readiness
  • Coach FDEs and help junior team members develop problem-solving, debugging, and systems-thinking skills
  • Identify risks, architectural weaknesses, and reliability issues before they become customer-facing problems
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to distinguish deployment-specific issues from platform-level gaps
  • Translate recurring customer challenges into reusable platform capabilities, internal tools, reference implementations, and technical standards
  • Improve testing, observability, debugging, incident response, documentation, and release management practices
  • Help define the standard for excellent Forward Deployed Engineering at Magical
  • Report to the Head of Deployments and collaborate with Forward Deployed Engineers, Deployment Strategy, Product, and Engineering

Requirements

  • Significant experience in software engineering, Forward Deployed Engineering, solutions engineering, systems integration, implementation engineering, or a similarly hands-on technical role
  • Experience as a technical lead or senior individual contributor on complex, customer-facing software deployments
  • Ability to move from understanding customer workflows to debugging integrations, improving agent behavior, and shipping reliable production solutions
  • Strong problem-solving ability and capacity to create structure in unclear situations
  • Strong technical judgment, including knowing when to fix an implementation, change architecture, or escalate a platform limitation
  • Willingness to personally handle difficult implementation and debugging work
  • Ability to influence and lead engineers without formal management authority
  • Strong coaching ability
  • Clear communication with engineers, deployment teams, and customer stakeholders
  • Deep care for production reliability, testing, observability, and root-cause resolution
  • Curiosity about AI agents, prompting, automation, and multi-agent systems
  • Strong bias toward action and a “show, don’t tell” approach
  • High agency, prioritization, decision-making, and self-unblocking ability
  • Comfort working in early-stage environments where the technical playbook is still being created
  • Located in Toronto or willing to relocate
  • A science, engineering, or similarly technical educational background is helpful, but not required
