About the role

Design Manager leading multidisciplinary municipal water/wastewater design delivery for GHD, a global engineering consultancy. Managing quality, budgets, schedules, change control, and construction coordination.

Responsibilities

Manage multi-disciplinary project delivery for municipal water/wastewater projects
Produce compliant, constructible designs according to client, operation and maintenance, and construction requirements
Ensure designs follow appropriate engineering processes, including GHD and project-specific processes
Coordinate quality control of deliverable submittals under GHD’s Quality Management System
Develop or verify technical project scopes and support pricing, work planning, and design initiation
Prepare and adhere to deliverable schedules with the Project Controls team
Manage the engineering design budget and provide inputs to Project Controls
Implement and follow the project Change Control system and escalate potential changes
Review and improve project strategy to meet design schedules and budgets, including staging and phasing
Ensure communication among project management, design, construction, and internal and external stakeholders
Verify schedule and budget data against professional-services progress
Coordinate preparation of design criteria by team leads
Lead creation and execution of design work plans and level of effort
Chair and document interdisciplinary design coordination meetings and report critical issues to the Project Manager
Liaise between construction contract administration and engineering during construction and coordinate multidisciplinary resolution of site non-compliance issues

Bachelor’s (B.Sc.) degree or equivalent from a recognized college or university
5+ years of design management experience on multi-discipline engineering teams for municipal water/wastewater projects within Canada
Additional 5+ years of industry experience
Technical proficiency and previous project design experience in one or more disciplines (civil, structural, architectural, process mechanical, building mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation & control) considered an asset
Knowledge of scheduling software and engineering and capital cost estimating techniques is a definite asset
Membership of the PEO is an important asset
Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) on multi-discipline projects
Ability to deal with uncertainty and changing and multiple priorities
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills
