About the role

  • Lead the architectural direction and implementation of distributed Scala systems and API-driven multi-tenant platform features. Collaborate asynchronously with designers and PMs, mentor engineers, and drive scalable, configurable deployments for partners.

Responsibilities

  • Architectural strategy: Design the underlying models for booking flows and multi-tenant configurations.
  • Technical governance: Define the “North Star” for our distributed Scala systems, ensuring robust and maintainable models.
  • Multi-tenant excellence: Evolve the platform toward a “configuration over customization” model to enable partner deployments without manual technical intervention.
  • Mentorship and influence: Raise the bar across the organization through in-depth design reviews and by promoting a culture of asynchronous decision-making.
  • Architectural ownership: Lead the design and operation of API solutions that act as the single source of truth for our partners.
  • Systemic improvement: Proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks in code or infrastructure.
  • High-alignment leadership: Operate with extreme autonomy, collaborating with designers and PMs to ensure alignment on complex technical roadmaps without constant meetings.
  • Asynchronous excellence: Encourage decision-making through high-quality documentation and asynchronous communication.

Requirements

  • Bilingualism required: Excellent command of both French and English (spoken and written) is required to collaborate with our globally distributed teams and partners.
  • Technical boldness: A natural ability to dive into complex codebases to untangle logic and implement elegant abstractions.
  • Mastery of distributed systems: Deep experience (or the ability to quickly master) developing distributed systems in Scala.
  • Platform mindset: Prioritize modularity and configuration to support N partners with minimal manual intervention.
  • Pragmatic judgment: Ability to distinguish what must be perfect from what can be iterated, balancing long-term health and speed of execution.

Benefits

  • Solid, ambitious startup: A well-funded company with global ambitions; competitive salary and significant upside potential through pre-IPO equity packages.
  • 100% paid insurance: Hopper covers 100% of group insurance premiums.
  • Full protection: Life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • Health Spending Account (HSA): To cover eligible medical and dental expenses.
  • Telemedicine with Dialogue: Unlimited access to Dialogue’s virtual healthcare services for employees and their dependents, anytime and anywhere.
  • Retirement savings (RRSP): Access to an RRSP plan with automatic pre-tax payroll deductions each pay period.
  • Exceptional parental leave: Ask us about our very generous policy, significantly above industry norms.
  • Unlimited time off (PTO): A performance- and trust-based culture with an unlimited vacation policy.
  • “Carrot Cash” travel allowance: Hopper credits to help you explore the world.
  • Flexible work: On-demand access to coworking spaces via FlexDesk AND an allowance for remote work (home office equipment).
  • Entrepreneurial culture: An environment where pushing boundaries and taking risks is part of our daily work.
  • Open communication: Direct and transparent access to leadership and company leaders.
  • Massive impact: Small, dynamic teams that enable concrete, visible contributions to our global products.
