About the role
- Forward Deployed Engineer building full-stack, AI-driven aviation software for IFS Aerospace & Defense customers. Embedding at customer sites and integrating enterprise systems into mission-ready operations.
Responsibilities
- Embed with Aerospace & Defense customers on their sites and inside their systems to understand operations
- Design and ship software collaboratively with customers
- Build and test full-stack features, including services, APIs, data, persistence, integrations and web interfaces
- Connect IFS to ERP, CRM, IoT, telemetry, legacy and mission systems
- Own solution architecture in real customer contexts
- Manage automated testing, CI/CD, deployment, observability and operational reliability across cloud and customer environments
- Use AI-assisted and agentic development tooling and bring AI-powered product capabilities into customer environments
- Feed field learnings back into the core product and roadmap
- Collaborate with product management and engineering teams
- Act as a trusted technical voice for customers and partners
Requirements
- Hands-on experience designing, building and shipping production software across the stack, including backend services and APIs, data and integrations, and web front ends
- Proficiency in modern general-purpose programming languages
- Substantial experience working directly with customers, on site or embedded in their teams, to deploy, integrate, harden and support enterprise software in their own environment
- Experience integrating systems such as ERP, CRM, IoT and legacy platforms
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, cloud and DevOps, and security
- Track record of owning significant pieces of delivery with little supervision
- Ability to make sound architecture and shipping-quality decisions under time pressure
- Excellent communication with technical and non-technical audiences
- Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities
- Willingness to travel to customer sites as the work requires
- Experience building AI solutions is strongly preferred, including model integration, prompt engineering, RAG, agentic architectures, evaluation and testing, and/or AI-assisted and agentic development tooling
- Experience working in or with Aerospace & Defense organisations, or on asset, maintenance, MRO or fleet-readiness solutions
- Experience with enterprise asset management, field service or maintenance-management solutions
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience with agile delivery and globally distributed teams
