About the role

  • Software Engineer II building backend APIs, reporting, and controls for Instacart's Carrot Ads publisher advertising platform. Owning reliable partner-facing features across retail media systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship publisher-facing features across Storefront, Storefront Pro, and API partners
  • Extend the Connect / Carrot Ads API with clear contracts, event handling, dead-letter recovery, integration tests, and self-serve documentation
  • Build retailer controls for relevance, quality scores, reserve pricing, and ad-load management
  • Strengthen reporting and data integrity through attribution, catalog and product-ID mapping, reconciliation, and automated health checks
  • Improve reliability by defining and meeting partner SLAs, enhancing observability, reducing incidents and recovery time, and contributing to partner-health monitoring
  • Debug partner-facing serving and reporting issues across shared serving, measurement, and quality systems
  • Collaborate with Product, Enterprise Solutions, Serving, Measurement, Ads Quality, and Ads Manager teams
  • Use AI-assisted developer tools while maintaining quality and security
  • Own shipped work through production and on-call

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building and operating production backend services
  • Strong API design and distributed-systems fundamentals
  • Fluency in a backend language such as Go, Ruby, or Python
  • Track record of shipping features end to end with solid testing, observability, and operational ownership
  • Experience debugging across service boundaries and collaborating across cross-functional teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Preferred: experience in ad tech, retail media, or publisher-/partner-facing platforms
  • Preferred: familiarity with Kafka, dead-letter queues, and idempotent processing
  • Preferred: AWS or GCP cloud infrastructure experience
  • Preferred: data reconciliation, attribution, or catalog and entity mapping experience
  • Preferred: partner- or customer-facing APIs, documentation, error contracts, and integration testing
