About the role
- Software Engineer II building full-stack cloud-native applications for SpryPoint, which modernizes utility customer service and operations. Developing Java services and web interfaces with AI-assisted engineering.
Responsibilities
- Build and integrate web applications, services, and tools as a full-stack developer
- Use agentic AI tools such as Claude Code across design, building, testing, and deployment
- Participate in Agile planning, reviews, and retrospectives
- Collaborate with team members to solve technical challenges and improve development processes
- Build and deploy reliable, performant web applications
- Contribute to testing and automate testing with AI where valuable
- Stay current with technologies and AI tools
- Own tasks through timely completion and adherence to standards
- Contribute to architecture discussions and suggest improvements
- Conduct code reviews, including validation of AI-generated code
- Troubleshoot development and production issues
- Document technical designs and best practices
- Participate in training and workshops
- Suggest process improvements
- Share knowledge with the team
- Communicate updates and concerns to stakeholders
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in software development, focused on Java backend web applications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Java
- Experience writing clean, maintainable, and testable code following industry best practices
- Solid understanding of relational databases
- Proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and querying
- Experience with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
- Familiarity with AWS services and cloud computing concepts
- Ability to develop clean, efficient code and address complex technical problems
- Judgement to review and validate code produced with AI tools
- Eagerness to keep learning and adapt to change
- General AI literacy is a plus
- Experience with Claude Code or GitHub Copilot is a plus but not required; training will be provided
- Final candidates must complete a background check and identity verification
