About the role

  • Corporate Underwriting Consultant managing Group Benefits pricing, contracts, and risk for Manulife, an international financial services provider. Supporting profitable client solutions and mentoring underwriting colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Manage underwriting risk to support profitable, long-term financial results
  • Establish rates and retentions for new and existing Group Benefits plans
  • Ensure appropriate target profitability levels are achieved
  • Provide internal account management and respond to client requests related to pricing and benefit changes
  • Prepare quotation submissions, including questionnaire responses
  • Customize value-added responses using Loopio
  • Onboard new clients by developing complex client structures and applications
  • Coordinate with internal partners on administrative and plan design requirements
  • Negotiate contracts, including financial arrangements, benefit plan provisions, and service and performance standard agreements
  • Improve operating performance to support long-term financial success
  • Assess liabilities associated with various Group Benefits arrangements
  • Collaborate with experienced underwriting professionals and mentor junior colleagues

Requirements

  • Previous underwriting experience within Group Benefits
  • Strong knowledge of the Group Insurance market, products, and services
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, including data manipulation and pivot tables
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Post-secondary education with strong business, mathematics, and analytical aptitude
  • Professional risk management expertise
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with and support sales teams
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English (preferred)
  • CEBS or GBA certification (preferred)
  • Strong business acumen and ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly, verbally and in writing
  • Strategic and creative thinking focused on developing solutions for unique customer needs
  • Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and influencing skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities within tight timelines
  • Sound decision-making skills balancing risk management, financial discipline, and customer needs
