About the role

  • Service Engineering Specialist diagnosing New Flyer transit bus issues, developing repair instructions, and supporting field teams. Coordinating suppliers, testing, and corrective actions for reliable transportation products.

Responsibilities

  • Determine root cause and corrective action for issues affecting products in service
  • Work with other departments and suppliers to resolve product issues
  • Document and release retrofit instructions
  • Provide general support to field staff
  • Recommend solutions to problems raised by field staff or customers
  • Assign Risk Priority Numbers to Field Service Action Reports
  • Investigate, identify, and resolve product problems of varying difficulty
  • Document and provide SCANs for supplier issues
  • Create service instructions and service bulletins for field repairs
  • Perform field work as needed to determine root cause and corrective action
  • Answer incoming calls from internal and external customers and field staff
  • Supply updated information and improvement suggestions to the Technical Publications Department
  • Stay current with training on pertinent vehicle systems
  • Resolve customer problems and complaints effectively and promptly
  • Coordinate tasks to meet schedules, supplier timelines, and customer timelines
  • Assist with controlled testing of components and installations
  • Complete special assignments as required

Requirements

  • Technical aptitude with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology Diploma, or a combination of equivalent education and engineering experience (Mechanical/Manufacturing)
  • Registered or eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist
  • Experience with air brakes, engines, transmissions, and general troubleshooting considered assets
  • Exceptional customer service experience and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Motivated self-starter with a high level of initiative
  • Travel up to 10% may be required across Canada and the US
