Global Government Engagement Lead advancing responsible AI policy at Partnership on AI, a nonprofit shaping equitable AI governance. Building government relationships, policy submissions, and international convenings.
Responsibilities
Drive PAI’s global government engagement portfolio
Develop tailored engagement strategies for priority jurisdictions and institutions
Map key stakeholders and assess government priorities, focus areas, and gaps
Identify new government partners and deepen existing relationships
Support PAI representation in bodies such as the Council of Europe
Recommend thematic priorities for jurisdictions in consultation with Programs & Research
Develop MoU proposals with government entities for PAI Legal review
Represent PAI in international and jurisdiction-specific policy discussions
Organize multi-stakeholder convenings with policymakers and PAI Partners
Lead submissions to government calls for evidence
Translate research and data into public policy positions and briefing documents
Design and deliver listening sessions and convenings for policymakers
Support engagement strategies for major government events, summits, and multilateral fora
Design convenings and lead resulting summary documents and position papers
Track metrics and report on PAI policy convenings and government engagement
Draft briefing books for PAI’s CEO and senior leadership
Provide verbal briefings and accompany senior leaders on US and international government engagements
Monitor, interpret, and analyze worldwide policy developments, legislative texts, and international AI policies and frameworks
Maintain policy tracking mechanisms and keep the organization informed through regular updates
Brief teams ahead of policy events and connect policy work across PAI departments, partners, and stakeholders
Requirements
Masters degree or higher in related discipline or equivalent (7+ years) work experience required
Significant experience in government relations, public policy, or international affairs, ideally with some exposure to technology or AI policy
Track record of building relationships with senior government and multilateral stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions
Strong writing skills, with experience producing briefing materials, evidence submissions, or position papers for senior audiences
Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams against tight external deadlines
Willingness and ability to travel internationally for government meetings and events
Experience working in or with multi-stakeholder, non-profit, or mission-driven organizations is a plus
Stakeholder management skills to build strong relationships, manage conflicting opinions and priorities, and deliver through others
Strong team player and project manager able to work across the organization, build stakeholder engagement/tracking processes, and coordinate between teams
Analytical and strategic thinker able to identify trends and synthesize critical facts or statistics in briefs, memos, position papers, and presentations
Strong understanding of political sensitivities to identify key issues and risks before they arise
Must be eligible to work in the United States or Canada, as applicable to location of residence
