About the role

  • Senior Talend data engineer supporting Alberta’s DRAS environmental regulatory transformation program. Building and operating secure, scalable integrations across legacy systems, cloud services, databases, APIs, and analytics platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, operate, and support Talend data integration solutions across ministry systems, cloud services, analytics environments, and operational systems
  • Translate business and data requirements into technical designs with data mapping, transformation, and reconciliation logic
  • Build parameterized, reusable, and context-aware jobs for development, test, and production environments
  • Implement scalable, performance-tuned integration patterns for batch and near-real-time data movement
  • Design and expose secure data services and APIs using Azure API Management
  • Implement data governance practices, including metadata management, data classification, and lineage tracking
  • Design, develop, and unit-test Talend integration jobs, routes, and reusable components
  • Schedule, orchestrate, deploy, and monitor Talend jobs; track execution, throughput, and failures
  • Provide operational support, triage issues, troubleshoot problems, and resolve integration incidents and data-load failures within service levels
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines and integrations for reliability, scalability, and performance
  • Use AI and automation tools for pipeline development, testing, monitoring, documentation, code generation, optimization, and review
  • Support the Digital Regulatory Assurance System program and potentially additional enterprise data initiatives
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience developing data integration solutions with Talend Data Integration, Data Fabric, or Talend Studio
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL
  • Experience designing ETL/ELT processes, data mappings, and transformation logic for enterprise data
  • Experience operating and supporting integration jobs in production, including scheduling, monitoring, and incident resolution
  • Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, data classification, and lineage tracking
  • Knowledge of privacy and regulatory compliance standards such as POPA
  • Knowledge of role-based access controls, encryption, and data masking
  • Experience with Azure API Management
  • Ability to use AI-assisted tools for code generation, optimization, review, testing, monitoring, and documentation
