About the role
- Senior Journalist reporting local and regional stories for Postmedia, a Canadian news media company. Producing print, web, and mobile coverage for Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Alberta audiences.
Responsibilities
- Find, develop and tell stories affecting people in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Alberta
- Report and write stories for print, web and mobile audiences, tailoring content to each platform
- Break news and produce innovative reporting as part of the news team
- Write short- and longform stories for readers in the Strathcona County region and the West
- Cultivate sources and establish expertise to set the news agenda and break stories
- Work independently within a collaborative regional newsroom
- Experiment with new ways to tell stories and engage news and business readers
Requirements
- Five or more years of experience at a daily news organization in a deadline-oriented role
- Fluency in digital platforms, multimedia journalism and social media
- Ability to work quickly and independently, meet multiple deadlines, and make efficient decisions
- Familiarity and ability to complete print production as part of a team
- Ability to work constructively as part of a newsroom team
- Excellent news and business reporting and writing skills
- Excellent news judgment
- Demonstrable strengths in accurate, clean reporting
- Proven ability to initiate stories and enterprise features
- Understanding of digital platforms for breaking news and reaching audiences
- Comfort filing stories for print, web and mobile platforms on tight deadlines
- Knowledge of legal and journalism ethics
