Electrical Designer creating 12–500 kV substation designs for Qualus, a power infrastructure solutions firm. Developing electrical calculations, drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
Responsibilities
Perform electrical design on 12 kV to 500 kV substation projects from conceptual design through construction
Develop AC and DC low-voltage load calculations, battery bank sizing, cable sizing, cable tray sizing, lighting calculations, diagrams, plans, sections, ground grid layouts, grounding details, conduit and cable routing plans
Prepare security and access control designs and building specifications
Prepare fire detection and protection designs and building specifications
Prepare cable schedules and wiring diagrams
Prepare and review drawing lists, engineering documents, specifications, and inspection and testing plans/procedures
Review design documentation with the Owner’s Engineer to ensure project requirements are satisfied
Review vendor documents against specifications
Prepare material take-offs for electrical equipment and order materials through the procurement group
Respond to construction-site information requests and complete project documentation, including as-builts and calculations
Travel to site and consult with internal groups, external contractors, and clients
Maintain relationships with internal groups, external contractors, and clients
Integrate current safe practices and methods into designs
Work within assigned budgets and schedules
Requirements
Electrical Engineering Technology Degree from a recognized institute or college
Canadian Professional Engineering Technology Designation (C.E.T) or the ability to register as a Certified Engineering Technologist
5-12 years of electrical design experience
Experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation
Experience with lighting design and associated software such as Dialux or AGI32
Experience with fire detection & protection design
Experience with security & access control design
Experience with high voltage substation design will be considered an asset
Experience with power system calculation and associated software such as ETAP will be considered an asset
Experience with MV cable sizing and associated software such as CYMCAP will be considered an asset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong understanding of regulatory codes and standards, including CSA, NESC, NFPA, and ANSI / IEEE
