About the role

  • Health Analyst analyzing population health and surveillance data for Peel Region’s public health services. Developing dashboards, reports and maps to support evidence-informed decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Function as data guardian for population health and surveillance databases
  • Ensure data are used and stored according to data sharing agreements and Regional health information privacy practices
  • Obtain, clean and analyze data from population health and surveillance databases and other Peel Public Health programs
  • Use STATA, R, Esri products, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and Excel to organize, analyze, report and interpret health data
  • Conduct technical analyses and prepare reports for surveillance, population health status monitoring, program planning, program evaluation, epidemiologic questions and information requests
  • Develop and present dashboards, visualizations, maps, tables and customized reports using Power BI or Tableau
  • Provide support on technical and analytical issues related to health status and surveillance data
  • Provide technical input on database design and maintenance
  • Collaborate with and provide analytical support to epidemiologists and other internal staff
  • Update and maintain team procedural documents on health databases
  • Provide expert and timely service for ad-hoc data requests

Requirements

  • Honours BA or BSc in Statistics, Biostatistics, Health Studies, Life Sciences or another related discipline
  • Minimum of three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of population health data sources, such as IntelliHealth and Canadian Community Health Survey
  • Ability to describe health databases and related policies, methods and limitations
  • Ability to synthesize, analyze, interpret and communicate health/epidemiological information from multiple sources
  • Knowledge and understanding of public and community health issues
  • Excellent analytical skills using statistical software such as R, STATA and Excel
  • Experience with mapping software such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, including dashboard development, data modeling, DAX, data transformation and visualization of complex public health data
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently within an interdisciplinary team setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
