Applied AI Engineer building LLM-powered pipelines that transform municipal websites into structured CMS content. Automating migration, validation, and internal tooling for SimpliCity’s Canadian GovTech platform.
Responsibilities
Design and build an AI and automation pipeline for municipal website content migration
Read, interpret, classify, and extract metadata from websites, documents, and images
Map unstructured and semi-structured content into structured records and machine-readable JSON
Build reusable migration scaffolding for tracking, content inventories, and site scraping across municipalities
Generate templated records for news, events, meetings, facilities, bylaws, and contacts
Develop scalable tooling to validate AI output quality
Build an MCP server exposing pipeline capabilities to AI assistants, the platform, and downstream systems
Build an internal application enabling SimpliCity staff to migrate content independently
Work directly with the CTO, full-stack engineer, and QA/content specialist
Make technical recommendations and collaborate with team members during real municipal migrations
Deliver a repeatable pipeline that team members can run under real project deadlines
Requirements
3+ years of software engineering experience
Experience building real software with LLMs beyond chat, including pipelines, agents, extraction or classification systems, or evaluation harnesses
Strong JavaScript and Node.js expertise
Experience building repeatable tools teammates can run independently
Ability to measure AI output quality and choose appropriately between prompting, fine-tuning, and deterministic code
Comfort working with messy HTML, scanned PDFs, and unstructured source data
Experience or willingness to become skilled in LLM APIs, coding agents, prompt and context engineering, model selection and fine-tuning, structured JSON-schema output, and output-quality evaluation
Knowledge of ReactJS, REST APIs, composable/headless CMS architecture, and Microsoft Azure
Knowledge of unstructured and semi-structured web content, HTML and document parsing, content classification, and metadata extraction
Familiarity with Git, Bitbucket, GitHub, Jira, Slack, Notion, Microsoft 365, and OneDrive
University degree or diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Ability to work mostly overlapping with team hours of 8am–7pm PT when outside British Columbia
Must be physically located in Canada; candidates outside Canada will not be considered
Ability to work 32–36 hours per week, primarily Monday–Thursday, with occasional half-day Fridays or extra hours when needed
