About the role
- Engineering director leading architecture, managers, and delivery for Space Dinosaurs’ high-performance ecommerce platforms. Shaping Next.js, Shopify Plus, and Salesforce Commerce Cloud solutions for global retail brands.
Responsibilities
- Own delivery outcomes and velocity across delivery teams
- Diagnose systemic bottlenecks and remove architectural or process blockers
- Hire, develop, and performance-manage engineering managers, leads, and architects
- Build the engineering leadership layer
- Define frontend architecture patterns, rendering strategies, and performance standards for multiple delivery teams
- Drive story refinement and documentation standards
- Establish standards and workflow patterns that enable effective AI-agent execution across squads
- Partner with PMs and stakeholders across time zones
- Manage competing priorities across client engagements while maintaining delivery quality
- Coach managers on cross-cultural communication and proactive async collaboration
- Develop managers' ability to represent technical tradeoffs to non-technical audiences
- Own people, architecture, and delivery across multiple squads and client engagements
- Represent Engineering in senior client conversations
- Shape engineering standards across the organization
- Remain hands-on on key initiatives, contributing approximately 20–30% of the time
Requirements
- 5+ years in engineering management
- Experience managing managers, leads, or architects, not just individual contributors
- Architectural judgment in modern frontend systems
- Experience defining Next.js architecture patterns, state management, and performance standards
- Delivery ownership in agency or professional services environments
- Experience running client engagements across competing priorities while maintaining quality
- Strong written and verbal English
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders across the US, Europe, and LATAM
- Experience developing managers' communication skills across cultures
- Evidence of establishing standards and workflow patterns for effective AI-agent use across a squad
- Experience with spec-driven development, code review for AI-generated output, and coaching engineers to decompose work for reliable agent execution
- Preferred: hands-on experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud or Shopify Plus/Hydrogen
- Preferred: familiarity with composable commerce patterns, MACH architecture, or headless CMS platforms
- Proficiency with React, Next.js, TypeScript, Shopify Plus, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, BigCommerce, SCAYLE, Vercel, CI/CD pipelines, Cursor and/or Claude Code, ChatGPT, Jest, Cypress, Playwright, Slack, Jira, and Confluence
