Electrical Engineer in Training working on HV/EHV AC and DC substation projects across North America with Stantec's Energy team.
Responsibilities
Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, TRV, cable ampacity, rigid and flexible bus, lighting, etc.
Conduct detailed design of substations, including switchyard layouts, sections, grounding plan/details, cable routing, AC/DC distribution, major equipment specifications, single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, marking, design calculations, etc.
Prepare technical specifications for major equipment, construction, and testing & commissioning.
Provide technical support for procurement, construction and commissioning.
Assist in preparing proposals, project plans and estimates.
Coordinate with other disciplines during project execution to solve challenging technical issues.
Follow internal QA/QC procedures to deliver high quality engineering service to clients.
Conduct site visits to verify existing installation, define project scope, prepare for detailed design, and provide construction site supports as required.
Drafting work may be required in order to complete deliverables.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or equivalent.
0–6 years of relevant experience; experience working with utilities in North America is an asset (BC Hydro experience preferred).
Experience in PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS, MathCAD is an asset.
Experience in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD and Inventor.
Preliminary knowledge of the CEC, and industry standards such as IEEE, and CSA.
Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Self-motivated, team-oriented, and highly organized with strong time management skills.
Valid driver's license.
