About the role
- Senior Electrical Engineer specializing as a Subject Matter Expert in power generation systems at Stantec. Ensuring technical excellence and providing oversight across various projects in Atlantic Canada.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in rotating electrical machines (generators, motors, excitation systems) and power generation equipment.
- Provide senior technical oversight, guidance, and peer review for hydro, thermal, and combustion turbine generating stations
- Lead root cause analysis and troubleshooting for complex failures and performance issues in generators and associated systems.
- Establish, review, and maintain engineering standards, specifications, and best practices for power generation electrical systems.
- Provide independent design reviews and technical assurance for major projects and critical equipment.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, supporting studies, condition assessments, refurbishment strategies, and new generation projects.
- Mentor power team members, providing guidance on complex technical matters.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Master’s degree considered an asset)
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with a Canadian Engineering Association; eligible in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia
- 20+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering within power generation and utility environments
- Demonstrated experience in a senior advisory, lead engineer, or SME role
