About the role
- Senior Substation Physical Electrical Engineer developing HV substation designs, leading projects and engineering deliverables at Stantec. Engaging in thorough QA/QC and interdisciplinary coordination with project managers.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead all aspects of HV substation design
- Perform QA/QC of electrical engineering design packages
- Work closely with Project Managers to meet project timelines for engineering deliverables
- Determine appropriate allocation of resources and track man-hours on projects
- Review, comment, and approve electrical design & drawings for substation construction packages for codes and standards compliance
- Work with the P&C team to produce complete station drawings
- Attend client interactions and project status meetings
- Participate in project planning meetings and reviews
Requirements
- Registered P.ENG in Canada
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field is required.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in utility HV substation design is required.
- Experience with site visits, FAT, to capture all technical data needed for estimates and execution of related substation expansions is preferred.
- Ability to lead a team of engineers working on Substation design, including interdisciplinary coordination.
- Capable of producing station one lines, key plans (layouts), conduit plans, lightning, grounding calculations, lighting plans, station typical elevations, and BOMs.
- Capable of writing equipment specifications and reviewing vendor drawings.
- Ability to develop and maintain good client relationships and be able to demonstrate solid technical ability.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and develop strong internal and external relationships.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to mentor engineers and designers.
- Experience and understanding of AIS and GIS substation designs
