About the role
- Electrical Engineering Team Lead managing complex utility substation projects at Stantec. Lead a team, ensure compliance, and mentor engineers for clean energy solutions.
Responsibilities
- Ensure client expectations related to project scope are clearly understood, met, and exceeded.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members; foster initiative, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Champion a strong safety culture by promoting safe work practices and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.
- Provide technical leadership as a subject matter expert, offering professional engineering advice within and beyond the department.
- Prepare and review technical reports, presentations, standards, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, TRV, cable ampacity, rigid and flexible bus, lighting, etc.
- Lead detailed design of substations, including switchyard layouts, sections, grounding plan/details, cable routing, AC/DC distribution, major equipment specifications, single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, marking, design calculations, etc.
- Develop technical specifications for major equipment, construction, testing, and commissioning.
- Provide technical support during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Support proposal development, project planning, and cost estimation.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and designers.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex technical challenges.
- Ensure adherence to internal QA/QC processes to deliver high-quality engineering services.
- Conduct site visits to verify existing installation, define project scope, prepare for detailed design, and provide construction site supports as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- 8+ years progressive and comprehensive engineering experience in the transmission and distribution utility business particularly in the design, engineering and maintenance of Substation.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work and collaborate with a range of internal and external customers.
- Experience in CYMCAP, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS, Autodesk Inventor is an asset.
- Experience in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat, & AutoCAD.
- Previous experience working with or at BC Hydro is an asset.
- Equipment engineering experience is an asset.
- Willing and able to travel occasionally when required.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, efficient, and a good communicator.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication abilities with a keen eye for detail. Ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.
- Valid driver’s license.
