About the role

  • Software Engineer building Go-based networking infrastructure, Funnel and DERP relays for Tailscale’s secure connectivity platform. Improving global service reliability, scalability and customer connectivity.

Responsibilities

  • Design, construct, evaluate and document networking features, connectivity solutions and open-source client-code network dataplane
  • Design and oversee Tailscale’s global Funnel and DERP relay infrastructure
  • Promote operational excellence and automation for scalable, highly available and performant hosted services
  • Enhance Funnel and DERP relay infrastructure and associated network protocols
  • Investigate and resolve complex escalated networking problems
  • Maintain live services through observability, incident management and technical support escalations
  • Evaluate and improve performance, reliability and scalability of networking systems
  • Apply security-centric practices throughout networking component development
  • Provide architectural guidance and collaborate with engineering and product teams

Requirements

  • Proven track record in networking software development and troubleshooting
  • Expertise in VPNs, NAT traversal, routing and IP addressing
  • Experience with distributed systems and maintaining global-scale services
  • Experience applying SRE and DevOps methodologies
  • Experience with Go highly desired
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and asynchronously
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced startup environment
