About the role

  • Video Editor shaping digital news journalism for The Globe and Mail. Editing breaking news, explainers and social video for Globe-owned platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with producers, reporters and section editors to develop and execute original video stories and series
  • Edit video journalism across breaking news, explainers, interviews, enterprise stories and recurring franchises
  • Shape stories through visual storytelling, pacing and structure
  • Contribute story ideas, visual approaches and creative solutions
  • Create platform-specific content versions for social platforms
  • Collaborate on thumbnails, headlines, captions and other video packaging elements
  • Shoot video with reporters in the newsroom
  • Perform colour correction, audio mixing and branding for polished final products
  • Respond to major breaking-news events and contribute to video coverage when required
  • Help shape stories from concept through production and publication across Globe-owned and social platforms

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience editing video journalism, preferably for digital news
  • Strong news judgment and commitment to journalistic standards
  • Demonstrated ability to craft engaging visual stories and shape narratives through editing
  • Experience editing for YouTube and other digital video platforms
  • Understanding of audience engagement and retention
  • Familiarity with long-form video storytelling and short-form vertical video formats
  • Ability to work quickly and independently in a deadline-driven newsroom environment
  • Skilled with Final Cut Pro (preferred) or Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Experience creating motion graphics and other visual storytelling elements using After Effects or Motion is an asset
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, is an asset
  • Experience shooting video with smartphones
  • Cover letter and resume required; cover letter must be written by the applicant, not AI
  • Minimum two days per week in the Toronto office
