About the role

  • Regina-based reporter breaking news and producing original Saskatchewan coverage for The Globe and Mail, Canada's national newspaper. Covering politics, business and issues affecting the wider country.

Responsibilities

  • Frequently pitch fresh, compelling story ideas
  • Develop sources to break news and produce exclusive stories
  • Write clearly and on deadline
  • Work with colleagues across the department and wider newsroom to brainstorm story ideas and determine the best way to tell them
  • Think beyond standard storytelling formats
  • Participate in Globe subscriber events
  • Work with reporters in bureaus across the country on business, politics and national news stories
  • Produce clear and compelling original pieces and develop high-impact coverage

Requirements

  • At least five years experience reporting for a news organization
  • Interest and experience covering politics and business
  • Flair for telling stories in Saskatchewan that will resonate beyond the province
  • Strong writing with versatile range, from hard news to human-interest feature to explanatory
  • Solid news judgment with a track record of enterprise work
  • Comfortable working in a variety of formats, including live blogs, newsletters, video and audio
  • Must be based in Regina
  • Must be able to travel regularly on assignment
  • Cover letter with three links to previous work and a resume written by the candidate
