About the role

  • Field Service Engineer maintaining Thermo Fisher laboratory instruments at customer laboratories across Canada. Installing, repairing and servicing scientific equipment while supporting customers and managing field-service documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, upgrades, updates, repairs and preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments at customer labs
  • Interact professionally with customers to solve technical problems and ensure equipment performs optimally
  • Collaborate with internal partners and Field colleagues to resolve customer issues and improve processes
  • Complete service ticket documentation, escalations, Field Problem Reports and Field Service Reports
  • Manage spare parts ordering, usage, returns, physical counts and trunk-stock inventory
  • Maintain technical competency through training, staff meetings and product, market, customer and competitor updates
  • Explain and offer service contracts and other service products to customers
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, biology, chemistry or related field, or equivalent work experience and knowledge
  • Valid driver’s license and passport
  • Canadian citizen/permanent resident or valid Canadian work permit
  • Proficient in English
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Sound judgment when setting work priorities
  • Effective collaboration with Field colleagues
  • Positive adaptation to change and constructive feedback
  • Willingness to travel in the assigned territory and beyond
  • Ability to lift at least 40 lbs. without assistance
  • Ability to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Moderately frequent overnight travel
  • Preferred: 3+ years of relevant experience with related science, engineering and/or customer service
  • Preferred: master’s-level degree in a related field
  • Preferred: experience in a clinical, diagnostics or regulated laboratory environment
  • Preferred: aptitude for learning IT systems and processes
  • Preferred: residence within approximately 50 km of downtown Vancouver
