About the role

  • Strategic Projects and Initiatives Lead shaping planning, governance, and change for the University of Alberta Registrar’s Office. Building frameworks and decision support to advance student-service priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the University Registrar and senior leadership on strategic priorities, implementation risks, sequencing, dependencies, and portfolio alignment
  • Develop integrated implementation roadmaps with decision points, accountabilities, milestones, risks, mitigations, dependencies, and success measures
  • Lead portfolio-level planning frameworks connecting Registrar’s Office priorities to institutional strategy and governance cycles
  • Develop an organizational capability framework and translate it into professional development priorities, learning pathways, and capability-building approaches
  • Advise senior leadership on development opportunities and assess the impact of professional development investments
  • Design implementation plans for cross-portfolio strategic initiatives involving process change, stakeholder engagement, and sustained organizational change
  • Develop progress updates, tools, briefings, presentations, reports, options analyses, and decision-support materials
  • Support issue identification, options analysis, decision-making, implementation, and evaluation for current and emerging issues
  • Review projects, proposals, and governance-related matters for student impact, feasibility, systems implications, policy alignment, operational readiness, timelines, and resources
  • Lead or support policy, regulation, procedure, and framework development through research, environmental scans, consultation, and evidence-informed recommendations
  • Strengthen Registrar’s Office governance and implementation practices, including roles, decision rights, escalation pathways, consultation, documentation, accountability, and risk management

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in business, public administration, higher education administration, or a related field
  • Graduate-level education preferred
  • 5–10 years of progressive direct experience in strategic planning, project management, portfolio management, governance support, or organizational planning
  • Experience shaping business strategy, developing plans, analyzing data, and aligning goals to achieve objectives
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and market research skills
  • Ability to develop innovative and concrete solutions to complex institutional problems
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, relationship management, and issues management skills
  • Demonstrated conflict-resolution experience and ability to advise diverse stakeholders at all organizational levels
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a demanding, changing work environment
  • Highly developed political acumen and ability to collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and community partners
  • Ability to develop and advocate for new policies, programs, administrative structures, or modifications to existing practices
  • Extensive knowledge of the University of Alberta, its strategic plan, initiatives, structures, systems, policies, procedures, and values considered an asset
  • Experience in a complex institutional or post-secondary environment considered an asset
