About the role
- Sr. MS SQL DBA needed for database support, performance optimization, and security in financial services. Contract role in Toronto.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of and lead technical resolutions for production incidents on MSSQL and Oracle databases. Communicate complex technical issues clearly to stakeholders and business partners. Ensure compliance with organizational standards for change control and database security policies. Analyze recurring incidents and recommend service improvements. Support on-call rotations, including incident response and customer support. Participate in incident management, scheduled disaster recovery, and SCM activities. Conduct post-mortem analyses and root cause investigations of critical incidents. Install, configure, and maintain MSSQL and Oracle databases. Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and resource management. Implement security best practices including user access control, encryption, and auditing (TDE, Data Redaction, Database Vault, Always Encrypted). Design and support high availability (RAC, HA) and disaster recovery strategies. Automate routine database monitoring and maintenance tasks.
Requirements
- 5-7 years of experience with Azure Cloud databases, focusing on MSSQL. 2+ years of experience with PostgreSQL. Proven experience with setup, installation, and configuration of database products. Strong skills in query tuning, troubleshooting, and monitoring database issues. Hands-on cloud migration experience. Knowledge of database backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures. Familiarity with database security features and best practices. Nice to Have: Experience with ServiceNow Ticketing System, Knowledge of SolarWind Performance Monitoring Tools, Azure Certification(s), Financial Industry (FI) experience. Soft Skills: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, Excellent communication skills, Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, Customer-oriented mindset and result-driven approach, Adaptability to fast-paced environments, Demonstrated integrity and professionalism.
