About the role
- Backend Software Engineer building identity decisioning systems and KYC-compliant services for Affirm’s buy-now-pay-later platform. Developing distributed systems with Python or Kotlin across financial product teams.
Responsibilities
- Break down larger projects into individual tasks and deliver them in multiple phases
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely delivery
- Partner with product management, design and analytics during ideation and decision-making
- Articulate technical constraints and evaluate risks and trade-offs
- Create and monitor metrics for team artifacts
- Escalate issues and support operational availability, keep-the-lights-on and on-call efforts
- Participate in growth and development activities, including interviews
- Build backend systems that validate consumer identity across Affirm products and satisfy regulatory protocols such as KYC
- Collaborate with Product, Compliance, Auth, Fraud and engineering teams
Requirements
- 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
- Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems
- Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
- Familiarity with distributed systems
- Familiarity with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
- Ability to design solutions interacting with multiple software components
- Ability to write clear, well-tested and extensible code
- Experience navigating large code bases and debugging code
- Experience providing code review feedback
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
