About the role
- Accounting Services Director leading teams and month-end close for Eightx’s outsourced ecommerce finance clients. Solving complex accounting issues and protecting client enterprise value.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, develop, and help hire accountants and bookkeepers
- Review work before it reaches CFOs or clients and enforce quality standards
- Plan portfolio capacity and ensure deadlines are met
- Run the accounting team’s weekly meeting, clear blockers, and address recurring problems
- Own month-end close across every client, completing it accurately within two to ten business days
- Sign off on close files, reconciliations, and working papers
- Set and enforce standards for fixed assets, loans, prepaids, accruals, and deferred revenue
- Lead variance reviews across Shopify, Amazon, wholesale, and expense lines
- Coordinate year-end work with tax accountants and CPA firms
- Write and maintain SOPs, checklists, and close calendars
- Standardize charts of accounts, working paper templates, flash reports, and monthly packages
- Identify and implement automation and AI improvements with the AI team
- Solve complex lease, equity, intercompany, multi-entity, multi-currency, inventory, COGS, sales tax, VAT, and nexus issues
- Act as senior accounting contact for clients and CFOs
- Join client calls, explain complex issues, and follow up with notes and action items
- Flag risks and communicate delays or errors proactively
- Work closely with fractional CFOs to support business decisions
Requirements
- 7+ years in accounting
- 3+ years leading a team of accountants or bookkeepers and reviewing their work
- Multi-client experience in public practice, outsourced accounting, client accounting services, or a controller role across several entities
- Deep technical accounting knowledge: accrual-basis accounting, leases, equity transactions, deferred revenue, and FX revaluation
- Strong Xero and QuickBooks Online skills
- Ecommerce accounting experience with Shopify, Amazon Seller or Vendor Central, and multi-currency
- Experience building processes and SOPs that people follow
- Fluent business English, written and spoken
- Comfortable on camera with clients
- Ability to coach and empathize
- Ability to be based anywhere in the world with sufficient overlap with North American business hours
- CPA, CA or ACCA listed as nice to have
- Audit, quality of earnings, or due diligence experience listed as nice to have
- Experience with NetSuite, A2X, Dext, Hubdoc, Bill.com, Rippling, or Gusto listed as nice to have
