About the role

  • Senior Staff Product Designer shaping Apollo GraphQL’s developer tools and AI-agent experiences. Leading coherent product journeys, design standards, and high-leverage user-centered initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assess Apollo's product surfaces end to end and identify where design effort creates the most leverage
  • Drive design work from idea through execution
  • Lead modernization of core developer experiences
  • Turn disconnected features into coherent user journeys
  • Partner with engineering as a peer and influence what gets built
  • Set design and craft standards adopted by designers, product managers, and engineers
  • Contribute patterns to Apollo's design system
  • Determine when usability testing is needed
  • Connect design work to business metrics such as developer activation, time-to-first-successful-API-call, and support cost
  • Help shape developer experience, onboarding, design system, and AI-agent interfaces

Requirements

  • 12+ years designing software, with a portfolio of shipped work
  • Experience designing technically complex products for technical users, including developer tools, infrastructure, data, security, identity, or APIs
  • Track record of identifying high-leverage problems and designing end-to-end solutions
  • Strong visual design and craft skills
  • Ability to operate independently and turn ambiguous problems into a cohesive vision
  • Track record of proactively surfacing problems and building alignment with engineering
  • Shipped developer-focused experiences, API tooling, or agent experiences preferred
  • Engineering or developer background, or production code contributions preferred
  • Comfortable moving between high-altitude thinking and interaction/craft details preferred
  • Experience working within and outside design systems preferred
  • Familiarity with AI design tools preferred
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. or Canada
