About the role

  • Payroll & Benefits Specialist managing payroll processing and benefits administration across Canadian entities. Collaborating with HR, finance, and leadership teams ensuring compliance and data integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with prevailing wage requirements; support ongoing process improvements.
  • Support biweekly Canadian payroll processing, including data entry, validation, and reporting.
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable wage and hour legislation, tax regulations, union agreements, and company policies.
  • Perform accurate calculation, deduction, and remittance of union dues in accordance with collective agreements and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist Finance with the preparation of monthly journal entries related to payroll.
  • Process biweekly payroll for hourly (union and non-union) and salaried employees.
  • Perform biweekly payroll reconciliations and support monthly reporting requirements.
  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives, including optimizing vendor tools and streamlining timecard collection, review, and approval workflows with managers.
  • Support the harmonization and standardization of payroll platforms and processes across entities.
  • Prepare and complete year end reporting, T4’s and T2200 etc.
  • Provide support to employees regarding payroll, time and attendance, and benefits-related inquiries.
  • Provide timely ad hoc financial analysis and reports as required by senior leadership and other departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources or Business Administration or equivalent
  • 4–7 years of experience in payroll and benefits management
  • Strong time management and prioritizing skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Working knowledge of ADP but not required
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and be a team player
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel
  • Multi-provincial payroll experience required
  • Working knowledge Canadian payroll tax and employment legislation
  • Ability to deal with difficult, sensitive and confidential information
