Payroll & Benefits Specialist managing payroll processing and benefits administration across Canadian entities. Collaborating with HR, finance, and leadership teams ensuring compliance and data integrity.
Responsibilities
Prepare and submit certified payroll reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with prevailing wage requirements; support ongoing process improvements.
Support biweekly Canadian payroll processing, including data entry, validation, and reporting.
Conduct regular audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity.
Ensure compliance with all applicable wage and hour legislation, tax regulations, union agreements, and company policies.
Perform accurate calculation, deduction, and remittance of union dues in accordance with collective agreements and regulatory requirements.
Assist Finance with the preparation of monthly journal entries related to payroll.
Process biweekly payroll for hourly (union and non-union) and salaried employees.
Perform biweekly payroll reconciliations and support monthly reporting requirements.
Drive process improvements and automation initiatives, including optimizing vendor tools and streamlining timecard collection, review, and approval workflows with managers.
Support the harmonization and standardization of payroll platforms and processes across entities.
Prepare and complete year end reporting, T4’s and T2200 etc.
Provide support to employees regarding payroll, time and attendance, and benefits-related inquiries.
Provide timely ad hoc financial analysis and reports as required by senior leadership and other departments.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources or Business Administration or equivalent
4–7 years of experience in payroll and benefits management
Strong time management and prioritizing skills
Good customer service skills
Working knowledge of ADP but not required
Must possess a strong work ethic and be a team player
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel
Multi-provincial payroll experience required
Working knowledge Canadian payroll tax and employment legislation
Ability to deal with difficult, sensitive and confidential information
