About the role

  • Fire and Life Safety Engineer ensuring systems integration for safe rail infrastructure projects at AtkinsRéalis. Requires 10+ years experience and bilingual proficiency in French and English.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align Fire and Life Safety (FLS) objectives throughout design workshops and review cycles.
  • Develop and implement integrated FLS strategies that ensure system performance, regulatory compliance, and seamless interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Embed FLS requirements early in the design process by reviewing engineering and architectural plans and guiding multidisciplinary contributors.
  • Interpret and apply codes, standards, and regulations (NFPA, CAN/ULC, building codes, transit-specific requirements) while liaising with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Conduct fire risk assessments for rail stations, tunnels, maintenance facilities, and related infrastructure, recommending effective mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare strategic reports, compliance matrices, and design review documentation to support key project decisions.
  • Support the evolution of internal FLS expertise by mentoring colleagues and contributing to long-term discipline development.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, building sciences, or a related technical discipline with specialization in fire protection.
  • Hold a relevant professional certification such as CFPS, OIQ, NFPA Fire Plans Examiner, or equivalent.
  • Bring at least 10 years of experience in Fire and Life Safety systems design for infrastructure or transit projects.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of Canadian and international fire-protection codes and standards, including NFPA 130.
  • Be proficient in French and English, both spoken and written.
